Things you will require:
- Your Website name/ Domain name
- A Hosting Account
Before moving on to create a WordPress blog, you will need a domain name and a Host Provider. Below are some websites where you can find both of them.
First of all, you need a domain name. Go to Godaddy.com or Hostgator.com to choose your Domain name. Keep in mind that the name should be catchy and easy to remember. Also, don’t make it too long or too short. If you are a Brand than try to get your brand name as a domain name.
You can buy hosting from the same websites mentioned above (Godaddy and Hostgator). You can buy a basic hosting account with 1 year of subscription. If it prompts for Linux or Windows hosting, always go for Linux hosting as it is fast and reliable.
Steps to Create a WordPress Blog:

Hope you have completed the above steps of buying a domain name and a hosting account. if yes, then we can move forward to install the WordPress for your website. There are 2 steps to install WordPress, one is easy and another one not so easy.
The Easy step:
- Log into your hosting account
- Move towards Control Panel
- Find the WordPress Icon
- Click the WordPress Icon
- Choose your Domain name
- Click on Install now to install WordPress
The above steps are almost same in every hosting accounts (Godaddy or Hostgator). After clicking install now button, it will prompt you to add WordPress password and username. Always remember to create a highly secure password and username for your WordPress Websites.
The Not so easy step:
If your hosting account has no option for WordPress installation then you have to deal it manually. Since most of the host providers have 1 step installation for WordPress in their settings, you might not have to use this option.
- Download WordPress from here or go to (http://wordpress.org/download)
- Unzip WordPress in a new folder.
- Rename a file named wp-config-sample.php to: wp-config.php
- Open the wp-config.php in Notepad and Fill it up:
- define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘database_name_here’); – Database name (if you don’t know it, ask this from your hosting support) or go to your host settings >database> Mysql. Here you can find your database name.
- define(‘DB_USER’, ‘username_here’); – Your hosting username
- define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘password_here’); – Your hosting password
After filling all these information, save the file.
- Now log into your hosting FTP (download FileZilla for that). FTP address is usually – ftp.yourdomain.com, username and password are the same as your login id of host account.
- Delete the file named index. After that upload all the files from your WordPress folder to your FTP server. Use FileZilla for this purpose.
- Once you have completed the previous steps, go the URL: yourdomain.com/wp-admin/install.php
This will manually install the WordPress on your host account.

2: Adding your First Theme:
Go to Appearance and Click Themes. You can find many featured and most popular themes at the display. Choose any one of them that you like and you can see the preview. Click install to add it to your WordPress. Now click Activate to activate that theme. Note that you can change and add new themes anytime you like. Choosing a theme depends on the content of your website and the users that the site will be attracting. Hence, choose the theme wisely.
You can also search for a particular theme by clicking on search option. These is also an option to filter your theme on top left corner.
3: Adding Page and Posts:
You can add a new Page by clicking on Pages > Add new. This will add a new page. Write something about Yourself and name that page as “About me”. This page will give you a little description about yourself.
To add a post , Click on Posts and select Add new. Now you can write your First Article on this post. After writing click on Publish post to publish it. You can also see the post preview before publishing a post.
Note: You can add a Category before publishing your post. This category can be later on added to a Menu. If you haven’t added any category, your post will go to Uncategorized section.
4: Adding A Menu
You can add a menu by going to Appearance > Menu. Here you can add menu and categories and name them as you want. If you have created a page, you can also add it to the menu.
Browse towards pages in Menu and select your fist page(About me). Now click on Add to Menu. Name your menu and select save menu. You can also add different categories to the menu. Create a Category while writing a post. This will save that category. Later on, you can add it to the menu.
If you want to show this Menu on your WordPress Website, then click on Appearance > Customize. Now go to menu options and add your menu. Click on save and your menu will be added.
5: General Settings
Here you will find General settings regarding your website name and users. Ther are many read/write setting that you can change according to your preference. Go to settings and browse towards these settings to change them. You can add a site tagline and site description if you want.
6: Adding Sidebar
Go to Appearance > Widgets to add widgets to your sidebar. You can add text, latest posts, calendar etc to these widgets. This will make your website more user-friendly nad easily accessible. You can also add extra widgets by adding plugins to your WordPress website.
7: Adding Plugins
Browse towards plugins > Add new. Start searching for a plugin or install some featured plugins. You can install some basic Plugins like Jetpack, Yoast Seo, and W3 Cache. These plugins will add some extra functions to your website and also make your website load faster.
